Social media isn’t my job; I’m not required to tolerate mean-spirited nonsense to preserve my livelihood. Social media isn’t a prison; I’m not forced to accept mean-spirited nonsense because I just can’t walk out to get away from it. Social media isn’t a marriage; I’m not trapped to tolerate mean-spirited nonsense for fear of losing half my stuff and incurring huge lawyer bills. Social media isn’t even necessary at all, and if overwhelmingly unpleasant due to mean-spirited nonsense I don’t need to participate. But, because I enjoy meeting new people in all of life’s venues, I’ve adopted the “one strike you’re out” policy to rid my social media presence of mean-spirited nonsense. This jerkweed-filtering policy makes social media platforms like Facebook a fun place to visit that I look forward to visiting (although I now prefer Twitter). Really, it comes down to this: Why be miserable during my entertainment time?
