I’m having a Superbowl party. I love the Broncos (I don’t). The Broncos and the Cowboys are the two teams in the Superbowl (I don’t care about football… I need an accessible analogy is all).
Who do I invite? Other Broncos fans, of course. Why would I invite people who don’t like the Broncos as much as I do? Why would I invite Cowboys fans? It’s not much fun having a bunch of people in the room who will cheer AGAINST the Broncos. That would ruin the Superbowl party.
I invite people who are Broncos fans because we all agree we want the Broncos to win, and anyone who cheers for the Cowboys will ruin our fun.
I invite people who reinforce my love for the Broncos. I invite people who want the Broncos to win. I invite people who think as I do. I invite people who already agree with me.
If I was holding a fairy tale climate change symposium, I invite other scientists who also believe in the fairy tale. I invite people who reinforce my belief in the fairy tale. I invite people who think as I do. I invite people who already agree with me.
And then I release an official fairy tale press statement of the sort…
This ain’t no “Four Out of Five Dentists Agree” gig. It’s an inconvenient truth for sure. Tu comprende? Bon.
