Aphorisms without meaning needing to be retired:

1.) History repeats itself.

2.) Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Both play to the hardwired need for patterns and categorization innate in human perception. However, this built-in processing tendency in humans leads to all sorts of logical fallacies by forcing the data to fit the curve, rather analyzing the data for its own unique conclusion.
