I’m home in SoCal, and I’m listening to the radio, and I’ve been a diehard KROQ fan since 1980 . . . but not now. Driving in on the 15 through Cajon Pass is usually where I can pick up KROQ, right around Rialto. They played three songs, about ten minutes of scripted (KROQ was never scripted . . . remember the Poorman?) DJ banter, and then craploads of advertising.

KROQ is canned nonsense, and I learned CBS owns them now. No longer are album tracks spun, b-sides and remixes. The DJs have no latitude to play what the want. How did KROQ become a corporate shill? Grody to the max!

I’ve discovered 98.7 FM. It isn’t the old KROQ model by any stretch. However, it’s at least alternative tunes I like that take up most of each hour rather than being weighted down with canned DJ sluff and commercials.

So, 106.7, I remember you fondly. 98.7, I turn to you. Don’t let me down.
