Stuck in traffic at the railroad underpass on Central (66) through Albuquerque. The top of the image is the Railrunner station, the site of the old Alvarado Hotel (Central & First). On the bottom of the image is the 1938 concrete railing for the pedestrian underpass… that I never noticed because I was never before stuck in traffic here.

The City of Albuquerque received federal funding in 1937 for the underpass after Route 66 was realigned east-west through Albuquerque. Modernization! And demolition. The pedestrian underpass is being removed.
