Nat and I had our first . . . significant . . . conversation tonight. She expressed disappointment in me not voting for either of the two presidential candidates offered last election.

I expressed several years ago I stopped treating a POTUS election like rooting for my favorite team to win the Super Bowl, nor would I take part in another great American pastime and that is voting for the lesser of two evils. Further, I won’t vote for one candidate just so the other candidate won’t win.

Nat was surprised by my stance, and I challenged her to provide me a candidate who values what I value and I’ll vote for that dude/dudette in the blink of a hummingbird’s eye. I’m alone watching “Thank You For Smoking” tonight.

Significant conversations this soon in getting to know each other, particularly about politics and feeling the obligation to explain myself, isn’t ideal yet it also isn’t a game ender. I do enjoy the company of thinkers sans rhetoric, and Nat fits this niche nicely.
