The thing about the position Fauci holds and people like Fauci is he didn’t get his job because he’s a great researcher and a knowledgable expert in his field. An administrative government job like Fauci’s is achieved by “going along” with the right people who make choices and hanging on tighter than anyone else. And honestly, if you’re really a great infectious disease expert, you aren’t going to waste your talent on a government administrator job. You’re going to go where there’s compensatory money for your intellectual talent: Private industry.

Make no error. Fauci isn’t in his position for being an excellent scientist. He’s there because he knows how to play the political game.
