Governor Lujan Grisham’s unconstitutional gun ban under the guise of a public health emergency wasn’t a sudden thought conjured only last week. The governor laid the foundation for this executive order back in May of this year, speaking to the School of Public Health at John Hopkins University. As she sees it and says it, everything from guns to poverty to climate are potential public health emergencies for her to act upon.

Governor Lujan Grisham spoke on gun violence as a public health emergency in May 2023.

This wasn’t a snap executive order emotionally triggered by the 11-year-old shooting victim near Isotopes Park in Albuquerque last week. This is how her public health emergency order (unconstitutional gun ban) is being portrayed. She’s been ruminating on this for months, waiting for the opportunity to implement her scheme.

And last week Governor Lujan Grisham saw and seized a very publicly visible opportunity perfectly tailored to her gestating “everything is a public health emergency” master plan. That it’s at the expense of a young child’s death and memorial now forever entwined with the governor’s historic executive overreach is off-putting to me. Surely there must be a better way to “start the debate” over gun crime in New Mexico.

Be impressed … I’ve been poking about on YouTube trying to recall where she spoke on gun violence being a public health emergency. Found it! Success! My brain hasn’t gone all POTUS just yet.
