Social justice movements capitalizing on high profile events is commonplace. Heck, I’ve done the same in pursuit of a few of my behavioral health advocacy goals. All said, I adhere to two moral standards I always insist of myself:

1.) When questioned about my opportunism, I am transparent and honest of my motivation and intent.

2.) I never allow my advocacy agenda to overshadow the social injustice that creates an opportunity to bring attention to my cause.

At the core, the George Floyd death is about unchecked law enforcement use of force. It’s a betrayal of our citizens who are asked to place our faith in their promise to protect us from lawlessness. This is important and central to much of my behavioral health advocacy.

Let’s not waste this public outcry of police brutality with tangential distractions.
